Muz Cuz Doin’ Time…
Last week the boys headed down to the Old Geelong Gaol to shoot the video clip for their up-coming single ‘Cruel Alibis’. Decked out in grey prison suits with their respective mother’s birth dates printed on the breast pockets, Mustered Courage spent the day trashing prison cells, pausing to reflect on their wrong deeds and hiding out from the 39 degree day behind a foot-deep solid bluestone walls. Keep your eye out for the new clip soon…
Woodford, Illawara, Tamworth, Port Fairy, National Folk and … Bob Hawke – 15/01/2013
Happy new year ‘Mustered Cousins’, Welcome to 2013 and we hope you had as amazing time over the holiday period as we did. We spent 12 hours driving on X’mas day and ate carrots rather than turkey whilst trapped in the ‘Mustered Carriage’. We did listen to about 30 versions of “All I want for Christmas is You” which helped pass the time. Cee-Lo’s version was the best.
We arrived at Woodford Folk Festival on Boxing Day and prepped for 8 nights in tents. Woodford was the most amazing festival we’ve ever experienced due to it’s sheer size and atmosphere. We were lucky enough to open the festival at 9:30am the day after boxing day, and believe it or not we had a packed tent for the morning gig. The next day we opened for Bob Hawke on the concert stage. We snagged a photo with ‘Hawkey’ and had a good chat. The next few days were just blissful weather, music , making new friends and lots of love to be shared. We tip our hats to the Woodford team and volunteers for creating such an amazing experience for all concerned.
We’ve got a HUGE YEAR ahead. Our new album is finished and we will be releasing the first single on February 1st. We’ll be giving the track away FOR FREE so make sure you sign up to our mailing list and like us on facebook to stay in the loop.
We’ll be playing in Melbourne at THE WESLEY ANNE EVERY THURSDAY in FEB to promote the release of the new single. We have great supports every week so hopefully we’ll see some of you Melbourne cats there.
We’re about to embark on our second TAMWORTH Country Music Festival for the rest of the month and will also be stopping by Illawarra Folk Festival on the way north. I’m sure we’ll be catching up with a lot of you at both of these festivals. We’ve also been announced for PORT FAIRY FOLK FESTIVAL and NATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL. We’ll be touring nationally this year so if we’ve never been to your town and you have venue suggestions or want to throw a private house concert/party.. drop us a line at musteredcourage@gmail.com We love to hear from everybody.
If anyone has any videos or photos from Woodford Folk Fest we’d love to see them.. Post them to our facebook or drop us an email!

Recording courage – 14/11/12
Howdy folks,
Well we did it. We spent our hard earned blood, sweat, tears and beers on recording our brand new record. We finally played our last notes and it’s all in the hands of our producer now. I have to say, we are all quite excited about this new project. We spent 3 days at Headgap Studios and 10 days at Aviary Studios in Melbourne recording our sophomore record. There were good times, hard times and too much coffee times. Times where we thought we totally sucked and times where we thought we ruled the world. Jimi Maroudas has done a fantastic job making our acoustic instruments sound fantastic and the rough desk mixes have sounded good already. Mixing has begun and we can’t wait to hear the first round of mixes. We had some amazing friends come and record with us such as Pete Fidler (Dobro), Kat Mear (Fiddle), Yen Nguyen (bass vocals), George Jackson (Fiddle) and Christi Hodgkins – from Perch Creek (Harmonica). Everyone played some fantastic stuff that we get to take credit for on our record. Thanks y’all. Cheque’s in the mail..
We had an amazing pickin’ fest at DORRIGO FOLK FEST, MALDON FOLK FEST and looking forward to HARRIET VILLE FEST on Nov 16-18. Jamgrass was amazeballs and it’s a shame we didn’t get back on night 2 due recording backing vocals til 3am! We’ve got plenty of gigs coming up so be sure to check out the gig page of the site. We are looking forward to spending the new years at the amazing WOODFORD FOLK FESTIVAL and have already secured a busy schedule at the upcoming TAMWORTH Country mMusic Festival. 2013′s gonna be a big year. If anyone wants a bluegrass band for their work or private Xmas party drop us an email! See you soon. Jules & Muzzy Cuz
4000k’s in 5 days – 9/10/2012
Howdy folks. We’ve been busy for the last month driving around the country. We took the new ‘Mustered Carriage’ up to QLD and back in five days where we performed at the Gold Coast Acoustic Music Festival. We munched on raw carrots and healthy snacks along the way being inspired by Nicks diet. Julian found a Goanna and Paddy got bombed by a bat and became ‘Guanophobic’. It was Julian’s birthday on the Sunday but he still couldn’t convince the band to have a trashy night on the surfers strip so we kicked back poolside at our hotel and had some quiet beers and bluegrass. We played an awesome little organic cafe joint on the Gold Coast on Sunday night called ‘Mandala’ who make the most amazing vegan pizza ever.. that’s right, vegan pizza. It was good. We got some good pre production done in the Mustered Carriage and finished off some arrangements for the new album which we have started recording. We finished tracking beds last week and this weekend we are into the fun overdub city of vocals and other bits and bobs. Our producer Jimi Maroudas has been a pleasure to work with and is pulling some great tones. Special thanks to everyone who lent us gear for the tracking.. Oli Dear who lent his amazing left handed DUFF Mandolin and Pete Fidler for lending his Degruchy guitar. Jamgrass Fest is shaping up to be huge. We are on the FRIDAY 19th night so make sure you have tickets. Both night are set to be amazing. All out upcoming gigs are on the gig page so be sure to check it out to stay in the loop. We;ve got some big festival announcements to make soon. Over and out. Jules & Muzzy Cousins.
Gympie Muster & New Album
Well howdy folks. Jules here checking in with y’all. It’s been busy times here at Mustered Courage Camp. We recently had our first trip to the Gympie Muster, which was a hoot. We had a couple of great sets in the Muster Club and got to hang out and share some beers with our friends – The Pigs, Lachie Davidson and Pete Denahy (the fastest walking man on Earth with the toughest calve muscles). We partied hard with the crew from CMC and got to do a little campfire jam with O’shea and McAlister Kemp. Josh, Lachie D and myself danced up a storm in CMC silent disco – if only there was footage of our dance spectacular. Nick and Josh created a new dance move called the wheel hoss (stand by for video footage of the new dance craze). Hopefully we’ll be back at the Muster next year!
The Madeline video has made it to #31 in the CMC charts. keep on requesting here! See it on YouTube here.
We are extremely busy in pre-production for our forthcoming record and we’ll be hitting the studio in one month to begin. Very exciting stuff. We’ve got a fantastic Aussie producer Jimi Maroudas on board for the project who we are excited to work with. Jimi has worked with the likes of ‘The Living End, Eskimo Joe, Pete Murray, Cat Empire and Kimbra to name a few. The new songs are coming along swell and we are looking forward to delivering a more refined Mustered Courage album to the world.
We’ve got a few great gigs coming up including a run to Tamworth and Goldcoast in Sept, Jamgrass Festival in Oct and also Dorrigo Bluegrass fest. Check our gig page or Facebook band page for all gig updates – Jules
